I am a dad of 2, a husband, and I coach our local boys football team, if you ever want a reminder of your humbleness and how little influence we actually have, I suggest coaching a bunch of 6-year-old boys.

The greatest impact and life achievement I have had so far is when I became the guardian of 16-year-old orphaned triplets (all boys) to guide them into adulthood. I am proud to say that we successfully navigated this challenging time together and that we have a fantastic relationship to this day. I was 26 when I took on this responsibility and it was this experience that fuelled my passion for psychology, and how we can harnes the challenges we face to raise us up to be even better.

I subsequently went on to achieve a PhD in Leadership and Culture Change with the British Military and I was awarded chartered status with the British psychological society on 2012. My PhD and post PhD work brought about large-scale culture change with the British Infantry, some of this work has been published in peer reviewed journals. I was an academic for around 10 years where I published over 35 peer reviewed publications, 6 invited book chapters and was program director of Psychology of Sport MSc.

Alongside my academic career I worked for UK Sport as a Culture Development Advisor where I supported senior leaders of Olympic Sports to develop sustainable winning cultures.

I currently work part time for the NHS where I support senior leaders, leadership teams, and multidisciplinary teams within a health context. I am also the founder of Clear Space Consultancy where I work in high performance sport (e.g., English Premier League) and business (e.g., Barrett Dixon Bell). I am an invited member of the Surgeon Sabermetric Research Group housed within the Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh. This work involves conducting cutting edge research and working with surgeons to optimise performance, we cover performance factors such as, performance under pressure, psychological skill development, cognitive load, and decision making.

I share these insights in a supportive way to challenge you to be better.
